The Vestry forms the lay leadership of the parish. A body of nine dedicated volunteers, it plays a vital role in the stewardship and temporal guidance of our church family. The Rector appoints a Senior Warden and Vestry members choose a Junior Warden as officers. The Wardens and Vestry members collaborate with the Rector to ensure that St. John’s remains a place of worship, fellowship, and service. Our Vestry works hard to fulfill its calling as faithful stewards of God’s work through this church.
In interim time when a parish is between Rectors, the Senior Warden takes on “ecclesiastical authority” for the congregation. Many of the roles and responsibilities of a rector become the responsibility of the Senior Warden. The Vestry continues its fiduciary and governance responsibilities and the Bishop is always the final authority on liturgy and doctrine for the diocese, but the Senior Warden becomes the “person in charge,” until a new rector is called.
The Vestry Treasurer oversees the church operations and prepares the budget. The budget includes our annual tithe to the diocese. The Treasurer works closely with a part-time bookkeeper to monitor actual income and expenses compared to the approved parish budget and oversees other immediate needs. The Finance and Investment Committee oversees the parish endowment and reserves.
