News & Upcoming Events

Please mark your calendar for St. John’s Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, February 15, following our 10 AM service. This is an important gathering for our church family. We’ll review 2025 and share plans and priorities for the year ahead. Your presence, support, and voice matter as we move forward together.

We’re teaming up with Heart of the Hamptons to help stock their upcoming clothing giveaway with clean, gently used clothing for everyone in the community. Please drop donations at St. John’s by Feb. 8. If you’d like to volunteer, contact Ursula in the church office.

Please join us for Craft Night on Thursday evenings through February 12. Each week will feature a fun, hands-on craft project. If you have a favorite craft you enjoy or something you have been wanting to try, come share it. Bring any supplies you have at home that you love to use, and we’ll also have a few basics. Feel free to invite friends. All are welcome!

On January 11th, we will return to our regular Sunday Schedule with one service of Holy Eucharist beginning at 10 AM.  We will be joined by St. John’s choir, and will also enjoy a lovely coffee hour after the service.  Please mark your calendars and make plans to worship with us this Epiphany season!

Join us this Wednesday at noon in the library as our weekly Bible study resumes!  We will have great fun each week as we examine the interconnection between the lectionary texts of the following Sunday.

During the four-week season of Advent this year, we will make a few exciting changes to our regular worship schedule. During these four weeks (11/30, 12/7, 12/14, and 12/21), St. John’s will offer an adult Sunday school class at 10:00 followed by our regular morning worship service at 11:00. We will serve coffee and refreshments both during Sunday School and also after church. As for our Sunday school class, we will spend the first three weeks looking at how each of the four Gospels differently tell (or not tell!) the story of Jesus’s birth.

On the fourth Sunday, December 21 (Advent IV), St. John’s host a multigenerational “Advent workshop” for children and adults to prepare together the Christmas ornaments that we will give out after the Christmas Eve service. That Sunday will be particularly special because St. John’s will offer a service of Lessons and Carols as our 11:00 service (We will also offer a 9:00 service of Holy Eucharist that morning.)

Please join us on Sunday, October 26th, immediately following the 10:00 service for St. John’s “State of the Church” meeting!  Now that the summer season has come to a close and our program year is underway, we have reached an ideal time to gather together to discuss exciting matters related to the life of the parish, in particular, our finances, our upcoming programming plans, and our strategic goals for the future of the church.  We will meet in the parish hall from 11:00 until noon.  Coffee and refreshments will be served.  Come and enjoy this fall town hall style meeting!

As we approach All Saints Day, a time of reflection and remembrance, we invite you to share the names of your loved ones whom you would like to be remembered in our prayers and thoughts during this solemn occasion. If you would like to include the names of your cherished departed ones in our prayers on All Souls’ Day, please add them to the list available at the back of the church. We’ll ensure that their names are lifted up in our collective prayers as we remember and celebrate the lives of your beloved.

Join us this fall for Sunday morning worship at St. John’s Episcopal Church! During the months of October and November, we will worship together in one combined service that begins at 10:00. During this service of Holy Eucharist, worshippers will enjoy the return of St. John’s Church Choir and St. John’s children’s Sunday School! Our choir will rehearse before church at 9:00 each Sunday and offer an anthem during the service. Also, during this new 10:00 service, St. John’s will offer a Sunday School gathering for preschool and school-aged children (participating children will recess to Sunday School after the reading of the Gospel and return to their parents before the service concludes). Each week, after the service, we will also enjoy a fun-filled coffee hour and time for fellowship and refreshment. This is sure to be an exciting season of fall worship; it begins on October 5th and runs through November 23rd.

Join us as we celebrate the Feast of St. Francis of Assisi on Sunday, October 5th with our annual cookout and pet blessing service.  On Sunday, October 5th (our first Sunday back together) we will gather for one service of Holy Eucharist beginning at 10:00.  After that service concludes, all are invited to go and retrieve their pets, and then join us for a hot dog cookout and pet blessing service that begins at noon!  All pets are welcome, as are stuffed animals and “pet proxy photographs”!  Bring your pets and bring a favorite fall dish as we enjoy this happy fall tradition together!

Please note that sign-up sheets are available after church in the narthex for those interested in participating in Sunday worship activities!  Please take a moment to sign up to serve as an usher, a greeter, a reader, choir member, Sunday School teacher, or eucharistic minister.  No expertise is required–only an enthusiastic and willing heart to serve!!

This fall welcomes the return of St. John’s Church Choir!  Join Peter Ludlow and Emily Paccasassi each week as, together, we make a joyful noise and lead others in worship.  Singers of all ability levels are encouraged to participate!  Each week, we will rehearse on Sunday mornings before church beginning at 9:00 in the parish hall.

Because of your generosity in supporting St. John’s and St. Andrew’s 2025 Art Show, our worshipping community was able to make a substantial gift to Heart-of-the Hamptons during the month of August.  As you know, a significant share of the proceeds of the 2025 Art Show were purposed for outreach giving–specifically, to partner with and to support other ministries serving God’s people within our community.  Last month, St. John’s and St. Andrew’s were able to give $4,000 to Heart-of-the-Hamptons in connection with its efforts to provide back-to-school supplies and food to low-income families preparing for the new school year.  In addition to this generous financial gift, please support the important work of Heart-of-the-Hamptons with your own prayers and volunteerism.

St. John’s Rector’s Bible Study continues on Wednesdays at Noon and all are welcome to join. You’re encouraged to bring lunch and enjoy a time of scripture, conversation, and fellowship together.

We’re honored to welcome the Rt. Rev. Lawrence Provenzano to St. John’s Episcopal Church this Sunday, August 3, at 9 AM. Bishop Provenzano will preach and celebrate Holy Eucharist during our morning service. Then, he’ll also lead the Rite of Confirmation at St. Andrew’s Dune Church at 11 AM.

This is a meaningful and exciting morning for us in Southampton, and we hope you’ll join us in giving Bishop Provenzano a warm and enthusiastic welcome.

The summer of 2025 is an exciting one for St. John’s and the Dune Church as we welcome our new rector, Reverend Jeremy Carlson, and revive the art show that supports local artists and the work of St. John’s.

We hope you will support the art show by purchasing tickets! All are welcome to attend the Cocktail Party on Friday evening with a general admission ticket of $150. Children and teens may attend for free.

Next Sunday, June 8th, St. John’s Episcopal Church will celebrate the Day of Pentecost!  Pentecost Sunday is an exciting day in the life of the Church during which we celebrate God’s sending the Holy Spirit into the world! Because Pentecost Sunday is considered by many to be “the Birthday of the Church,” St. John’s will celebrate the day in style!  Please wear red (the liturgical color of the day) and join us for one service of Holy Eucharist at 10:00 followed by a birthday party on the front lawn. Added to that, those of you who are able to read a second language are invited to–in cacophonous concert–read the gospel lesson together to commemorate the miracle of Pentecost as reflected in Acts 2.  (We will have folders of the gospel reading in Spanish, Swedish, German, and French at the ready, but if you speak a different language than those, please let Ursula know and we’ll have the reading ready for you!)

Next Sunday will be a wonderful day and serve as an exciting kick-off to the summer season!

Christian faith is based on the promise of life in the midst of death, of hope in the midst of suffering, and of resurrection and new life both in the future and in the here and now.  The Book of Common Prayer and Enriching Our Worship suggest wonderful scriptures for funeral services that fit these themes and the hope and promise of Easter. The goal of this class is to dig into these texts and apply their meaning to our own lives. The classes will be led by the clergy of the Peconic Deanery.

ST. JOHN’S KNITTING GROUP – KNITTING FOR A NEW PRIEST

Every Wednesday from 2 PM – 4 PM

St John’s knitting group meets every Wednesday afternoon from 2-4. We are currently knitting a prayer shawl of four-inch squares in the white, blue and red colors of the Episcopal flag to welcome our new priest on their arrival (we know they are out there, somewhere). We want to knit our new priest into our parish.

We see this as a whole parish effort and have kits with directions on how to knit a four-inch square. We have yarn and needles. Each square should take less than an hour to complete. If you are a complete novice, we are happy to teach you!

We regularly knit for “Christmas at Sea” a venerable Episcopal endeavor. We craft warm hats, scarves and neck warmers for mariners in the merchant marine and collect other items such as toiletries and decks of cards to go into their gift ditty bags.

Come join us on Wednesday afternoons!

The trip was inspired by the most recent book read by the St. John’s Book Club: The Personal Librarian by Marie Benedict and Victoria Christopher Murray. The book recounts the fascinating life of Belle da Costa Greene, the Morgan’s First Librarian and long-time Director.  Belle da Costa Greene (1879–1950) was one of the most prominent librarians in American history. She ran the Morgan Library for forty-three years—initially as the private librarian of J. Pierpont Morgan and then his son, Jack, and later as the inaugural director of the Pierpont Morgan Library (now the Morgan Library & Museum). Not only did Greene build one of the most important collections of rare books and manuscripts in the United States, but she also transformed an exclusive private collection into a major public resource, originating the robust program of exhibitions, lectures, publications, and research services that continues today.
